UBE Announces That Torrecot™ Bio-Composites Have Obtained Biomass Mark Certification
2024/05/28 News ReleaseTOKYO, May 28, 2024 -- UBE Corporation (President: Masato Izumihara) announced today that its bio-composites (product name: Torrecot™), which were developed as a master batch using biomass materials, have obtained Biomass Mark certification from the third-party certification organization, Japan Organics Recycling Association (JORA). The JORA Biomass Mark is awarded to environmental products that make use of biomass, a renewable organic resource, and that are produced.
The Torrecot™ bio-composites that UBE has developed and sells use 50 weight percentage specially processed wood biomass materials. They can be dry blended with petrochemical-derived resin such as polypropylene and processed for molding as a master batch that easily reduces the carbon footprint of products without compromising moldability and mechanical properties. They also have the two features outlined below.
- Molds are less prone to staining: Compared to ordinary materials containing wood powder, UBE's bio-composites prevent burning during the molding process, making it easier to clean molds.
- Outstanding recyclability: UBE's bio-composites can be reused with limited loss of mechanical strength even after repeated use.
UBE is leveraging the knowledge and expertise cultivated in the development and manufacture of composite products to customize and diversify Torrecot™. The company is developing product applications in a wide range of fields, including automotive components, logistics materials, construction materials, and furniture and home goods.
The UBE Group addresses global environmental issues by striving to reduce GHG emissions and pursuing the development and practical application of environmentally friendly products and technologies. Through these efforts, the UBE Group aims to achieve its vision for 2030, which declares its intent to be "a corporate group centered on specialty chemicals that contributes to the global environment, human health, and an enriched future society."
